Posted to the Houston Chronicle Comments

Today, I posted several comments to the article "Bank in grocery store robbed in southwest Houston."  I feel sure that many Texans/Houstonians were not at all happy about being in the store when this crime occurred.  This is one of the reasons law abiding Texans with no felony crime convictions should be able to carry a firearm concealed on their person without a permit.  Write your Texas reps today!

Posted to a Local ABC News Article

This morning I posted a comment to an online ABC News crime article with a link back to this blog.
"He should have had his weapon with him. Law abiding Texans with no criminal history need to be able to carry a concealed weapon without a permit, visit: [this website/blog]"
If you have a blog and would like to post a link to this blog, I will post a link to your blog, if you'll post a comment below.

Beginning the promotional aspect

Today, I emailed four blog owners a notice of this new blog.  I regularly read each of these blogs and post occasional comments to each.  I used the local newspaper online form to add this blog to their promotional links to other search engines.  I also added (see top right) links to Texas Government entities.  In the comments on my local newspaper, On each crime reported, I posted a short snippet and a link to this blog.

To any blog owners who would like to help promote this blog and this idea, please post a comment.

Sample letter you may use

Below is a sample of the letter that I faxed and emailed this afternoon to the Lt. Governor, State Senator Dan Patrick and State Representative Jim Murphy.  You are welcome to use it or create your own.  Please be respectful and try to keep the message short.

SAMPLE LETTER FOLLOWS BELOW:

Dear Lt. Governor Dewhurst [or] Senator [whomever yours is] [or] Representative [whomever yours is],

Due to recent US Supreme Court decisions regarding the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution, I would like for you to help get the right for Texas citizens, who would otherwise legally qualify, to be able to carry a concealed firearm without a permit.  If this requires a Texas Constitutional amendment, then please ask the legislature to get this done so it can be placed on the ballet for this fall's election in November 2011.

Thank you [or] A Constituent,
[you should place your name,
mailing address,
and telephone number here,
plus your email address]

Texas Constitutional Carry - the beginning

This blog is being written to facilitate the effort for Texas to become one of the few (so far) states in the United States to allow the concealed carry of firearms without a permit, otherwise known as, Constitutional Carry.  The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states:

As passed by the Congress:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
As ratified by the States:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Currently, Texas has laws allowing a Texas citizen to obtain a permit, after meeting certain qualifications, to carry a concealed firearm under most conditions within Texas.  One of the qualifications is that the applicant have no felony background.  In order for a person in Texas to purchase a firearm, he/she must meet the same requirement, usually through a Federal instant check.

Stay tuned as I will post a sample letter that you can use to email, fax, or postal mail and also use as talking points if you should call your representative, senator and governor or lt. governor.
